This laptop is not working well for me. All times are GMT. Sounds works fine, so I’m guessing the original comment about needing to manually install ALSA is just an old comment. I’ve just installed Ubuntu 9. Something I’ve noticed with Ubuntu, is that powering 6e400 the laptop with the wifi physically switched off, won’t enable the wifi when the switch is turned on again. I doubt you will see my distro is better than yours.
I have the onboard graphics Intel MHDwhich also works out of the box in 8. Bill do you have the same laptop with nvidia linix

I cannot confirm the overheating problem. The main issue with the Dell Latitude E is the wireless controller.
It discovered everything and including the Bluetooth adaptor. I’ve heard of compatibility issues in linux specially with wireless cards and the like. I reviewed Dell Latitude E with using Ubuntu 9. I have been very pleased.
